I am so very alone here. all alone except for me cup of tea and cloud cult on my ipod. they will always be here for me as i tirelessly plod through this paper assignment.
gretchen got her tattoos today! my gosh, they're amaaaazing! mom, dad, I'm going to get one next, ok? I know we talked nose piercing, but i think a nice blazing skull on my back would be soooo much cooler. by the way - should i wait to get my nose pierced in erie or get it done here? i think i get a student discount at sacred piercing in erie... should i run this by nana and papa first? oh, i can't do that. i can just imagine papa's blank stare and nana's exclaimation of disbelief. oh, gosh. i guess i'll quickly let go of this particular dream of facial piercing.
i stole a My Brightest Diamond poster from a bulletin board yesterday. I figured it'd be ok because the show was last wednesday and it was AMAZING. clare and the reasons opened for her. they were awesome as per usual. it was a much needed break in the dullness of my daily existance here at calvin college.

in other news, go into your dorm rooms and lock the doors. we have an epidemic on our bacteria ladden hands:
"Attention resident students,
Perhaps some of you have heard of the outbreak of “Norovirus” at Hope College this week. Noroviruses are a group of viruses that cause severe “stomach flu” and are quite contagious. Hope College was forced to close its campus and cancel all activities this weekend. Though we haven’t had any cases reported at Calvin, we know that some of our students have close friends or family at Hope, and so its wise for us to be vigilant and prepared. Please read this email carefully:
The symptoms of norovirus illness usually include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and some stomach cramping. Sometimes people additionally have a low-grade fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, and a general sense of tiredness. The illness often begins suddenly, and the infected person may feel very sick. In most people the illness is self-limiting with symptoms lasting for about 1 or 2 days.
If you or someone in your living area is showing these symptoms, please notify your RA or RD immediately. In most cases, students showing symptoms should be isolated from non-infected students by staying in their room--and roommates and suitemates should find other accommodations until the sick person is healthy and the room has been cleaned thoroughly. We have a number of empty rooms we could use to relocate students, or students could stay with friends in other rooms. While an outbreak at Calvin may be unlikely, we would appreciate everyone’s help and cooperation. More instructions will be sent out to all students if needed.
To prevent getting sick, use good hygiene techniques…wash your hands frequently, particularly before eating or touching your mouth; keep surfaces clean; don’t share utensils or cups or toothbrushes. For more on the Norovirus, visit the CDC website at http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/revb/gastro/norovirus-qa.htm.
Those of us who work with students in on-campus housing would not wish this outbreak on any campus, even an arch-rival on the athletic fields like Hope. However, though we share much in common with Hope, let’s not share this virus. Perhaps the best advice is stay clear of Hope students and facilities for near future!
Thanks for your careful attention to this situation,
John Witte, Dean of Residence Life
Nancy VerMerris, Director of Health Services
